Top Gimbal Stabilizers for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras

Posted on August 3, 2024September 15, 2024

This guide will cover the best gimbal stabilisers for DSLRs, mirrorless cameras and more. We have not included any gimbals designed for smartphones.

Before we get into our favorite gimbals let’s take a look at what a Gimbal is and its working.

What is a Gimbal?

A gimbal stabilizer is usually made up of brackets or rings that can pivot in a single direction. A gimbal stabiliser is an excellent tool for videographers who want to shoot handheld while producing stable footage.

A gimbal, in essence, is a support that you use to mount your camera on the inner bracket. The brackets surrounding your camera rotate, allowing the inner bracket to rotate and stay level.

The camera will look like it is floating in the air when attached to a gimbal. The stabilizer detects your movements deliberately (eg. a wide pan), and not the vibrations or camera shake that are inevitable when you shoot handheld.

What cameras are compatible with a gimbal?

You can find gimbals for any camera. DJI, for example, makes the OSMO Mobile 3 to be used with smartphones. There are also many other models available.

There is a large selection of gimbals for DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras. Even action cameras, and cinematic cameras, can be equipped with gimbals.

This guide will cover the best video gimbals to use with DSLRs or mirrorless cameras. In future guides, we will look at gimbals for other devices.
