The Sony A6700 sensor is two steps ahead of the A6600. First, the A6700 has a higher pixel count. This means it is currently the highest resolution Sony APS C format camera available. It’s true that the A6700’s slightly higher resolution won’t make much of a difference in terms of image size. However, it is nice to have one. The A6700 sensor’s backside illumination is more important. This allows it to move the data off the sensor quicker, which is behind many of the A6700’s performance improvements.
Sony released the APS C format A6600 in August 2019 and it’s replacement isn’t due until July 2023. The Sony A6700 (also known as Sony Alpha 6700) is now the flagship Sony APS format camera.
The Sony A6600 is still a fantastic camera and produces great results today, but there have been significant advances in camera technology over the past few years that have made their way into Sony A6700. We’ll look at the Sony A6700 and A6600 to see their differences, and if it’s worth upgrading.
