OUR VERDICT
The compact M40 light I saw last year was a great product. The M40 was easy to control in terms of brightness and color temperature. At 40W it was bright enough for many situations. The CINEPEER CM25, now renamed CINEPEER CM25, has a similar design and look, but with a slightly lower output.
The light also turns on quickly and is easy to control. The small size makes mounting and directing it easy. The 1/4-inch standard thread on the base allows it to be mounted directly on tripods and friction arms. This increases its usefulness.
The quality of illumination is, of course, the most important aspect. The ability to adjust the brightness using one of the dials on the side and then use the other dial to tweak the color temperature makes this light an excellent solution to blend into existing lighting or to be used as a standalone light.
It would have been nice if this lamp had an app control like the M40. However, the CM25 is a great choice for videography. The M40 offers more power for photography.
What is CINEPEER CINEPEER 25?
ZHIYUN is a leader in lighting for photography and video. The ZHIYUN CINEPEER M25 follows the ZHIYUN FIVERAY M40 . The two lights may look similar but a few changes have made them different products. When viewed side-by-side, the two lights are similar. Only a few minor design changes have been made, and there is a slight power reduction that makes the CM25 better suited for video shoots.
The new light, CINEPEER, is designed to be an assistant when filming. The small size and light weight make it ideal for mounting on a hot shoe directly to the camera or friction arm. The 1/4-inch base thread offers a wide range of mounting options.
The CM25 is very similar to the M40, and has a similar innovative design, quality of illumination, and power output. However, it is slightly less powerful. It is a costly investment, but the M40, which is priced around PS100/$100, is great. CINEPEER CM25 is a bit cheaper, with a launch closer to PS70 / $70, and with offers that are likely to appear, could be one of best compact lighting solutions available, especially if the M40 is anywhere near it.
