Sony has released its FE 16-25mm F2.8 G lens, a new edition to the acclaimed G Lens Series, specifically designed for full-frame a-mount cameras. This wide-angle lens with a large aperture is designed to produce exceptional images for a variety photographic styles including landscapes and astrophotography.
The FE 16-25mm G, launched on April 16, maintains a constant maximum F2.8 aperture across its zoom range of 16 mm to 25, resulting in high resolution images and beautiful bokeh. The lens weighs only 409 grams and is compact and lightweight. This makes it a great choice for creatives on the go.
It features a circular 11-blade aperture that contributes to the lens’ stunning bokeh. This characteristic has become synonymous with Sony G lenses. The lens also features advanced autofocus that is fast, precise and quiet thanks to two linear motors. This lens is ideal for capturing moving subjects, and can be used for continuous high-speed shooting with AF/AE track–upto approximately 120 frames per sec on compatible a9III cameras.
The FE 16-25mm F2.8 G also features four aspherical lenses, one of which is an ED aspherical. This configuration reduces chromatic distortion and provides sharp, high-resolution pictures from the center to the edge of the frame.
Sony also added several features to the lens that make it more user-friendly. These include a focus hold switch, an aperture ring equipped with an ON/OFF button for clicking sounds, and an option to switch focus modes. The lens also supports the “Active Mode”, which is the image stabilization feature of the a-series cameras. This allows for effective stabilization during video recording.
The lens has been designed to be durable, with dust and moisture resistance. A fluorine layer is applied on the front element of the lens in order to repel oil and water.
Pricing
The FE 16-25mm G is priced at PS1,250 (GBP) and EUR1,400 (Ireland). The FE 16-25mm F2.8 G is available from authorized Sony dealers in the UK and Europe.
